Goat-in-the-Garden Alternative

If you don’t want your goats in your garden, and believe me, you don’t! —then bring your garden (weeds) to your goats! Goats (and llamas) are energetic disposers of weeds, in this case, lots of plantain and mallow, turning this windfall of green into manure to compost. This also cuts down on the hay we have to import and helps us achieve our 50% goal: at least 50% of their food coming from our land.
Collecting pulled weeds to take to goat pen.

Our dear old goat Boris, may he rest in peace, used to stand beside me as I weeded along pathways (not in the garden!) to see what I pulled, and then quickly eating it. We were quite a team!

Feasting!
