A Blessing for a Vase
This is a second blessing poem in a series inspired by a collection of blessings by the late John O’Donohue, Irish poet and philosopher, To Bless the Space Between Us. These reflect my gratitude for the items I have used in my everyday life over the last 40 years, and this one on the event of my husband’s 80th birthday!
Vase that my husband used for his first bouquet to me. |
A Blessing for a Vase
For your large embrace
boughs of plum blossoms
twice your height,
or lazy stems of tulips,
boughs of plum blossoms
twice your height,
or lazy stems of tulips,
My gratitude.
For the vibrancy of spring
after winter wasting,
your open hearted arrival
full of flowering quince
Our first Valentine’s Day
My gratitude.
For poetries of flame
daffodil and tulip,
pussy willow and quince
roses and lavender,
a bough of oak
Divinity on our table,
My gratitude.
