Distillation: Join Us Saturday Morning, July 16, 8:30 am to 11:30 am

We started distilling this morning. The bees are buzzing, the sun releasing fragrance, the still going almost full time from now until we have distilled most of our remaining lavender, which seems like forever! This is because our still is small— the good news and the bad news! The good news: we can experience the terroir of each area in which we grow lavender. Some places produce much more oil per pound, some have more of the camphor, some are sweeter.  The bad news? Well, it isn’t exactly bad, but labor intensive! Donald will be sitting with that still a great deal for the next two or three weeks, a little high on lavender essential oil, a meditative experience!

We have five areas we grow lavender, each with a place name. Today we are distilling Sophia 11, the area near the spot we have our Open House each year. Donald will distill 50-60 pounds of lavender today, getting maybe 8-10 gallons of hydrosol, and 16 ounces of essential oil.

Join us Saturday morning, July 16, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am if you would like to see the process or experience the lavender pretty bloomed out. Today it is brilliant purple. By next week, it will have a darker undertone. And the bees will be very, very busy all week!

Oh.. and if you have an empty Harms Lavender Hydrosol container, we will refill it for half price with 2010 hydrosol on Saturday, July 16. Our essential oil and hydrosol will also be on sale, and we will be selling older bulk hydrosol for $10 a gallon in 5 gallon containers, very good for green cleaning!
