Weight Loss & Lavender: Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

Weight Loss & Lavender: Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

By: Cristin McDonnell

If your New Year’s resolution is to hit the gym in January, lavender will not only  aid in weight loss, but will help you keep the weight off.  Here are 3 reasons why.

1.) Drink Lavender Green Tea: Doing a teatox has become a trendy way to lose weight.  Drinking green tea reduces fat, stimulates your metabolism, and improves endurance while working out.  Since lavender is used to treat anxiety, add it to your cup of green tea to curve any emotional cravings. Cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Oz, also recommends using lavender to help cope with cravings.

Lavender Green Tea is simple and it is a great way to start your day.

The recipe:
1 tsp high quality culinary lavender
1 green tea bag
Boil water.  Add boiling water to a cup of lavender and green tea.  Allow to steep for ten minutes and then strain.

2.) Many studies and articles have been written to show that a good night’s sleep is as important as diet and exercise when trying to lose weight.  Greenhealthmatters.com states that a bath in lavender or massaging yourself with lavender oil, will aid in quality sleep.  You may also get a better rest by diffusing lavender in your room or spraying your pillow with lavender before you go to bed.

3.) Emotional factors and keeping weight off:  We sometimes gain weight due to stress, anxiety and worry.  Luckily lavender is calming and has been proven to effectively treat general anxiety disorder.  Place lavender oil on special sites such as the top of the head, the temples,  or on the back of one’s hand or wrist, where you are easily able to smell it periodically.
