Racu’s Clooties
Racu, our llama, brushes pieces of his coat onto particular bushes about the ranch, almost like prayer ribbons or Celtic clooties— at least, that’s what they mind me of. He is such a regal being, a conscientious guard of a very capricious herd.  Usually he likes to spend time by himself, cleaning his coat on prickly bushes such as small coastal oaks, when the goats are out with me. That is, unless he suspects a predator! Then he goes with us.
When I see pieces of his coat waving in a breeze on a tree along our path, I can’t help but wonder: for what would a llama pray?
