Still Pruning
Pruning seems like it goes on forever! Each year Ramon has us write down the date he begins pruning vines (this year, January 2.) Each year he races himself. From start to finish, pruning to tying canes, the process almost always takes 6 weeks for one man, given good weather. The work is tedious and cold these frosty mornings, but also some of the most important work we do. Ramon’s careful attention to each vine’s vitality and growth determines the fruiting not only for this year, but next as well.
