Preparing to steep the equisetum tea which we will then
ferment for ten days before use. It will keep for some time.

Although we no longer spray sulfur to protect against mildew as the grapes are in veraison, we do protect the vines by continuing to spray fermented equisetum tea, or Biodynamic prep 508, at the full and new moon. Equisetum is a plant source of silica, silica bringing in cosmic forces. This serves to keep the death forces on the ground, not in the grape bunches where they would cause rot and decay. We have had great success using this tea, as it allows us to use less sulfur earlier in the season and still protects the grapes after we have to stop using sulfur altogether, as it would cause problems in winemaking.
